Base Pay Range: $60,000 - $75,000 USD

 

Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors and this range represents an estimate of compensation at the time of posting. Base salary is only one part of our compensation package for this role. You may also be eligible for company stock and annual bonus. What We’re Looking For:

Iridium is seeking a talented and motivated entry-level Support Engineer I to join Iridium in support of a Space Development Agency (SDA) project. As a Support Engineer I, you’ll contribute to maintaining and supporting satellite ground entry point infrastructure that enables reliable communications across Iridium’s global network. In this role, you will focus primarily on-site maintenance activities, equipment troubleshooting, antenna upkeep, and system-level checks while working alongside experienced engineers. You will thrive in this role if you enjoy hands-on technical work, are eager to learn new technologies, and are motivated to build a career in the aerospace and telecommunications industry. 

 

This position requires an active/current Top-Secret Security Clearance or the ability to obtain a Top-Secret Security Clearance (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active). 

What You’ll Do:

  • Support maintenance activities for satellite ground entry points (GEPs) and gateway systems to help ensure reliable network operations 
  • Assist with troubleshooting hardware, equipment, and communications issues under the guidance of experienced engineers  
  • Participate in routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and operational checks of antennas and supporting infrastructure  
  • Help identify and document equipment issues, anomalies, and maintenance activities  
  • Conduct system-level checks and basic testing procedures to verify operational performance  
  • Work collaboratively with engineering and operations teams to support site availability and reliability objectives  
  • Investigate and help resolve routine technical issues following established procedures and documentation  
  • Support the installation, replacement, and maintenance of communications equipment and associated hardware  
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by providing feedback on maintenance processes and procedures  
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment status, and site documentation 

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field OR equivalent relevant experience in lieu of degree
  • General experience in or a basic knowledge of the network communication industry
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate key messages and ideas clearly and effectively
  • Can cultivate meaningful relationships with your manager and members of your team, while being open and responsive to constructive feedback as they guide and mentor you
  • The ability to think outside the box to help solve problems, with the humility to ask for help when needed
  • Adaptability to a dynamic environment and the readiness to take on any new tasks that are handed to you
  • A motivation to achieve outcomes and results
  • Capable of handling multiple tasks at once and completing them on time with mostly no errors
  • An eagerness to develop professionally, continuously learn, and share knowledge with others 

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • Previous exposure via college courses or internships to the following:

    • Experience with satellite network installation
    • Working knowledge of IP networks, IP equipment routing protocols
    • Experience with Data Center installation
    • Exposure to construction, telecommunications, utility, industrial, or other hands-on field work environments
    • Familiarity with construction site safety practices and safe work procedures. 
    • OSHA 10, OSHA 30, or other relevant workplace safety certifications 

We’ll also need you to:

  • When not traveling, be able to work in the office at least 3 or more days a week to foster collaboration with the team and stakeholders
  • Be able to travel up to 50%
  • Be able to lift up to 30 pounds, stand for multiple hours, and climb short ladders
  • Be a U.S. Citizen 

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in an office setting and is largely sedentary with the majority of the position working with a computer. The role typically requires the use of basic office equipment such as a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse, and printer.

Under Iridium’s Hybrid Work Policy, employees are expected to work at least three days per week (approximately 60%) in an Iridium office to support collaboration, relationship-building, and professional growth.
