What We’re Looking For:

Iridium is seeking an experienced Agile Project Engineering Manager to lead teams developing a state-of-the-art satellite ground system and user equipment supporting the company’s satellite-based position, navigation, and timing (PNT) services. In this role, you will provide strategic and operational leadership to Agile development teams on a high-visibility program already underway. You will be responsible for driving delivery of high-quality software solutions that meet critical customer needs, while fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement. This position oversees Agile execution across teams, ensuring best practices in Scrum and Kanban are applied effectively to achieve program milestones and organizational goals.

What You’ll Do:

  • Define, lead, and facilitate business practices for PNT programs including tracking the work flow of proposed program efforts
  • Foster and role model a culture of innovation, collaboration, accountability, and technical excellence
  • Define and drive the PNT Engineering Agile processes to ensure that the Agile process is operating for multiple Scrum teams
  • Lead and facilitate quarterly planning efforts by working with business leads and the engineering team to refine the engineering effort outlook
  • Maintain and own the Product Development roadmap(s) and interface with Product Management teams to ensure they have the most recent planning data
  • Lead resource allocation processes for the PNT Engineering team
  • Mentor, train, and develop your team by performing regular check-ins, discussing career growth opportunities, giving constructive feedback, and managing conflict when necessary
  • Mentor and train team members in their agile roles including product owners
  • Establish, define, and maintain common practices between fellow engineering managers and thier team members
  • Collaborate with other Iridium Agile leads as a part of a community of practice
  • Serve as the PNT Subject Matter Expert on business planning tools and as a liaison to the company application administrators
  • Update physical and electronic Agile tracking systems to provide transparency on product backlogs and in-progress work, supporting Development Managers and Project/Product Managers as necessary
  • Investigate and recommend continuous process improvement, including active facilitation of reviews and retrospectives and incorporation of lessons learned for future sprints
  • Work independently in a proactive manner to identify and elicit each area’s needs and opportunity for change via the enhancement process
  • Drive preparation efforts with the development of high-level designs with all business rules, limitations and assumptions thoroughly documented

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information, or related field
  • 10+ years of related software development life cycle experience
  • Previous management experience required, including leading and encouraging self-directed teams
  • Expert level knowledge and experience in Agile, specifically Scrum and Kanban, and SAFe
  • Expert level Knowledge and experience using the Atlassian tool suite
  • Strong experience leading release and sprint planning
  • Demonstrated ability to train and overcome obstacles
  • Experience leading scrum of scrums
  • Strong experience working for a commercial company that produces a tangible hardware or software product as their main revenue source i.e. selling software or hardware
  • Demonstrated history of active participation in scrum and agile industry events, trainings, etc.
  • Capable of being a strong motivator and source of direction for your team and role modelling commitment to your team’s goals
  • Have a people-oriented mentality and be able to build meaningful relationships with senior leadership on your team and in other departments
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey products, deliverables, analyses, and/or issues clearly and confidently, and recognize and adapt to different communication techniques
  • Be able to analyze and understand a situation or problem and think critically to make decisions, come up with and evaluate unique solutions, and see those solutions through to completion
  • Be independent and self-motivated and demonstrate a high degree of creativity, flexibility, and resourcefulness
  • Have a strong sense of urgency in driving projects to completion and be motivated to achieve outcomes and results
  • Can thrive in a dynamic environment and efficiently manage multiple or complex projects while continuously looking for new and enhanced ways of doing things

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM) Certification or Certified Advance Scrum Master Training
  • Certified Agile Coach
  • Prior experience supporting geographically dispersed agile development teams
  • Working knowledge and/or certification in SAFe methodology
  • Experience supporting Program Increment planning
  • Knowledge and experience with the Department of Defense project life cycle

We’ll also need you to:

  • This position directly performs under, supports, or is exposed to a U.S. government contract. To comply with the requirements of that U.S. government contract, applicants for this position must be U.S. citizens
  • Be able to travel up to 10%

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in an office setting and is largely sedentary with the majority of the position working with a computer. The role typically requires the use of basic office equipment such as a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse, and printer.
