What We’re Looking For:

Iridium is seeking a Senior Operations System Engineer to join our System Engineering team supporting the Space Development Agency (SDA) effort. As a Senior Operations System Engineer, you’ll be responsible for interfacing between the Iridium Operations team supporting the SDA and the Iridium System Engineering team in developing artifacts associated with the operations of the mesh network and ground segment.   You will provide critical operations and integration support to improve our efficiency and effectivity by implementing processes, procedures, checklists and software tools for ground and satellite operations.  Working in this role, you’ll interface with the United States government in dealing with Iridium generated and delivered System Engineering documents that govern operations at the SDA operation centers. 

 

This position requires an active/current Secret Security Clearance or the ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).

What You’ll Do:

  • Be responsible for the generation and development of System Engineering documentation as it relates to SDA Operations
  • Be accountable to the SDA System Engineering lead and act as the main liaison to the Iridium Operations lead in support of the SDA
  • Identify and autonomously implement ideas, solutions, processes, procedures, and checklists focused on continuous process improvement, more efficient operations, and reduced service impacts.
  • Manage the adjudication, approval, and coordination of discrepancy report identification and implementation
  • Maintain existing operational tool suite focusing on seeking improvements for streamlined automated and mechanized satellite ground operations
  • Support cross-functional efforts and special operations projects with small team sizes spanning multiple Iridium groups with minimal external interfaces.
  • Coordinate and support the testing and implementation of operations bug fixes for ground software builds.
  • Support the Operations team to facilitate crew training for recurring scenarios, ops affecting upgrades, and the Operational Crew Training and Certification process.
  • Ensure Operations team is provided with all deliverables pertaining to ops affecting upgrades prior to Transition to Operations - to include Delta Training, new user manuals, design documentation, or any other relevant documentation.
  • Support Operations team in System Anomaly Meetings to aid in fault identification, isolation, and restoration.
  • Surge with the System Engineering team on all efforts pertaining to SDA Operations

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or STEM related field
  • 8+ years of experience; or an equivalent combination of work experience in satellite operations system engineering, integration and test, and software development
  • Possess a passion for the Operations environment and the ability to clearly translate operational processes into system engineering artifacts/deliverables.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey products, deliverables, analyses, and/or issues to groups outside of your team or those who are unfamiliar with the topic.
  • Have confidence and be able to easily build relationships with leadership and colleagues outside of your team
  • Possess an analytical mindset, with the ability to understand a situation or problem and think critically to make decisions and come up with out-of-the-box solutions.
  • Be proactive in providing feedback and be enthusiastic in sharing your knowledge with others.
  • Capable of prioritizing your own tasks and potentially the tasks of others while making sure deadlines are met.

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • Understanding of the SDA acquisition model, SDA space constellation, and ground segment
  • Intelligence Community (IC) or Department of Defense (DoD) background
  • Working knowledge of Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)
  • Working Proficiency of the Atlassian tool suite

We’ll also need you to:

  • Be able to work in the office at least 3 or more days a week to foster collaboration with the team and stakeholders
  • Travel to the other SDA Operations Centers and Iridium facilities quarterly
  • Be a US Citizen

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in an office setting and is largely sedentary with the majority of the position working with a computer. The role typically requires the use of basic office equipment such as a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse, and printer.
