What We’re Looking For:

Iridium is seeking a Senior Manager of Network Dev-Ops Engineering who is looking to take an exciting next step in their Engineering career. The Senior Manager of Dev-Ops Engineering will be responsible for managing multiple activities and projects, including those with cross-functional teams, to support, maintain, and enhance new Iridium Cloud telecom architecture and service sub-systems. In this position, you will play a key role in the design, testing, deployment and second level support of Iridiums’ newest and most innovative systems and applications. What You’ll Do:

  • Foster and develop a highly effective team of Dev-Ops Engineers, where accountability and clear communication is demonstrated daily
  • Mentor and train your team by performing regular check-ins, discussing career growth opportunities, giving constructive feedback, and managing conflict when necessary
  • Collaborate with project managers, project subject matter experts, project business developers, and others, as necessary
  • Actively engage in new product designs or product modifications, review documentation and provide feedback to ensure deliverables meet operational requirements
  • Oversee the introduction of new products and/or new networks elements in terms of documentation, operation training material, deployment requirements, and planning in partnership with responsible stakeholders and vendorsWork closely with the Operations team to readily identify and resolve operations issues, improve maintenance procedures, improve troubleshooting processes , and add automated recovery methods where possible, and
  • Be responsible for managing operational issues, from detection to resolution to deployment, in coordination with responsible stakeholders and vendors
  • Manage Operations, Administration, & Management (OAM) support contracts with vendors
  • Participate in the administration and maintenance of the remote monitoring and management system, including updating agent scripts, responding to alerts, and performing periodic system performance assurance reviews
  • Serve as an escalation point for supporting, investigating, and resolving tier 2 customer tickets
  • Communicate with customers as required; especially as it relates to incident progress and providing notifications of impending changes and/or agreed outages, etc.
  • Create and maintain maintenance documents for all Gateway network element systems and network infrastructure
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Development, QA, and Operations teams to build scalable, secure and resilient systems
  • Work closely with the Solutions Validation (SVT) Team to ensure products have been tested thoroughly
  • Delegate and distribute as appropriate any tasks and responsibilities to team members

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, OR equivalent relevant experience in lieu of degree
  • 10+ years of relevant professional experience
  • 3-5 years’ experience with AWS Cloud-based 4G Core (preferably Mavener 4G Core) and RAN operations/administration
  • Previous experience managing a team
  • Capable of being a strong motivator and source of direction for your team and role modelling commitment to your team’s goals
  • Have a people-oriented mentality and be able to build meaningful relationships with senior leadership on your team and in other departments
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey products, deliverables, analyses, and/or issues clearly and confidently, and recognize and adapt to different communication techniques
  • Be able to analyze and understand a situation or problem and think critically to make decisions, come up with and evaluate unique solutions, and see those solutions through to completion
  • Be independent and self-motivated and demonstrate a high degree of creativity, flexibility, and resourcefulness
  • Have a strong sense of urgency in driving projects to completion and be motivated to achieve outcomes and results
  • Can thrive in a dynamic environment and efficiently manage multiple or complex projects while continuously looking for new and enhanced ways of doing things

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • Experience with any of the following technologies: Mavenir 4G Core, Gatehouse iNodeB systems, Kubernetes, AWS Cloud, infrastructure as code (laC) (e.g., Terraform, Ansible), familiarity with monitoring and logging tools (e.g. ELK Stack)
  • Proven experience in a DevOps leadership or management role, ideally in a telecom or networking environment

We’ll also need you to:

  • Be on call for after-hours calls in case of major network wide issues and/or to manage issue resolution steps
  • Be able to travel up to 20%
  • When not traveling, this position is hybrid and located in Tempe, AZ, with in-office expectations of at least 3 days per week
  • Exceptional leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in an office setting and is largely sedentary with the majority of the position working with a computer. The role typically requires the use of basic office equipment such as a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse, and printer.
