What We’re Looking For:

If you are passionate about space and deploying disruptive space technology, you’ll be excited about this position for a Space Development Agency (SDA) project. As a member of the System Engineering team, you’ll be responsible for managing multiple activities and projects, including those with cross-functional teams, to deliver customer-driven Network Management System Engineering artifacts. In this role, you will work alongside a team of Engineers to build and deliver a state-of-the-art Ground System. As a lead, you’ll be responsible for supporting system architecture and design, software development , integration and test, and operations areas of responsibilities.  To thrive, you’ll need a breadth of knowledge in ground antenna monitoring and control, fleet management, and software development. 

 

This position requires an active/current (Top-Secret or Secret) Security Clearance, or the ability to obtain and retain this clearance level. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Develop and maintain system-level architecture and design documentation, ensuring alignment with project requirements, industry standards, and best practices
  • Independently perform requirements analysis, definition, decomposition, and management for Network and Router Segments
  • Conduct risk assessments and mitigation planning for system design and development activities, identifying potential risks, developing contingency plans, and implementing risk mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware, software, and network engineers, to ensure seamless design, integration, and interoperability of system components
  • Conduct required system analysis (functional & performance), interface definition, and detailed trade studies, analyzing data sources to respond to frequent and high impact situations
  • Play a key role in major reviews such as: System Requirements Review, Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review, Test Readiness Review, & Operations Readiness Review as well as Program Increment Demonstrations
  • Collaborate with system architects and project managers to define system-level requirements, establish technical baselines, and track performance metrics throughout the integration process.
  • Develop capabilities to perform PWSA Enterprise mesh network management functions. 
  • Define activities to ensure the PWSA Enterprise network and network management capabilities comply with the applicable version of the SDA Network Standards and support emerging needs and timelines.
  • Support mission services and capabilities within the Ground Segment related to integrated Enterprise network operations (e.g. mesh network path definitions and traffic routing, etc.)
  • Support mission services and capabilities within the Ground Segment related to the relevant edge and remote devices and nodes – including constellation provisioning, routing, and monitoring functions through the connected on-orbit mesh network.
  • Provide support of routing solutions against program requirements in our high fidelity test labs
  • Design, develop, integrate, and test network management services and capabilities to enable management, integration, and situational awareness of network routes and topologies
  • Design, develop, integrate, and test network management services and capabilities to enable routing, monitoring, and performance assessment defined architectures.
  • Lead cross functional teams to address/resolve program techncial issues.
  • Participate in customer working groups to develop interface control requirements/documents.

 

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field OR equivalent relevant experience in lieu of degree
  • 10+ years of systems engineering experience, including experience with routing techniques, specifically Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)
  • Understanding of the network stack (L1-7)
  • Experience with Routers/Switches with advanced knowledge of TCP/IP network administration
  • Experience in network management and maintaining Juniper or Cisco Routers, Switches, and other vendors’ networking technologies
  • Strong knowledge of and multi-year hands-on experience with IP communication protocols such as OSI Model, Spanning-Tree, VDC, VTP, VSS, and routing protocols such as OSPF and EIGRP
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem management skills in a dynamic environment
  • Experience with Yang models, NEtConf, and RFC Spec
  • Familiarity with the NEBULA Spec
  • Understanding of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey products, deliverables, analyses, and/or issues to groups outside of your team or those who are unfamiliar with the topic
  • Can easily build meaningful relationships with others, including senior leadership outside of your own department, and comfortable providing constructive feedback to your team members and management
  • Be able to analyze a situation or problem, generate effective solutions, and see those solutions through to completion
  • Must possess the creativity and resourcefulness needed to make reliable decisions and determine methods on new assignments
  • Can thrive in a dynamic environment by handling multiple tasks and managing shifting priorities
  • Be proactive in sharing knowledge you’ve learned with others

 

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • Master’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or similar
  • Experience in a 24/7 Operations Environment
  • Experience in a data center or telecommunications environment
  • Proficiency with platforms such as SolarWinds, Cisco ISE, and Wireshark

We’ll also need you to:

  • Be able to travel up to 10%
  • Be a U.S. citizen (due to ITAR restrictions)

 

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in an office setting and is largely sedentary with the majority of the position working with a computer. The role typically requires the use of basic office equipment such as a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse, and printer.
