What We’re Looking For:

If you enjoy learning about and working with breakthrough technologies and are enthusiastic about working in the space industry, then you will be excited about the Senior Software Engineer opening with Iridium Ground Systems.  As the Senior Software Engineer within the Ground Systems Development team, you will apply cutting edge technologies to rapidly develop and deploy ground system operations and user service capabilities within a satellite operations environment.  Additionally, the Senior Software Engineer will identify and autonomously implement ideas/solutions within the larger development team to support cross-functional efforts across all areas of ground system software development.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Enhance existing ground software with feature requests and defects flowing from Iridium Satellite Operations
  • Promote new software FOSS technologies and perform trades to replace existing custom capabilities with FOSS
  • Collaborate and engage with Iridium Satellite Operations and other ground software team members to develop new ground software components founded upon modern industry standard platforms, languages, and deployment techniques
  • Develop optimized code for both scalability, performance, and high availability
  • Independently deliver results following Iridium processes for Change Control, Prioritization, Risk Management, Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) Management, Build and Test software deployments
  • Develop software within the Iridium-defined Agile/Scrum framework
  • Plan and execute software releases per stakeholder/program schedules and budgets
  • Confidently present prepared remarks to groups outside of your team through briefings and documentation, planned implementation, or issue resolutions
  • Utilize your expertise to transition existing capabilities to more advanced technologies, such as Cloud computing and micro-service architectures
  • Be accountable for the development and execution of process/procedure training/documentation materials covering complex developmental areas
  • Actively seek opportunities to provide formal/informal feedback and/or share expertise/best practices with team members

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related engineering discipline
  • 8+ years of software programming experience
  • Effective Microsoft Office skills
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey products, deliverables, analyses, and/or issues to groups outside of your team or those who are unfamiliar with the topic
  • Have confidence and be able to easily build relationships with leadership and colleagues outside of your team
  • Possess an analytical mindset, with the ability to understand a situation or problem and think critically to make decisions and come up with out-of-the-box solutions
  • Be proactive in providing feedback and be enthusiastic in sharing your knowledge with others
  • Capable of prioritizing your own tasks and potentially the tasks of others while making sure deadlines are met.
  • Passion for working in a team driven environment consisting of operators, software testers, senior developers, and system engineers
  • Demonstrated moderate autonomy in the judgment and selection of design, new technologies, and software architecture to meet customers’ requirements of a new system deployment

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • Experience with the following technologies:
    • Kubernetes / Docker / Podman / ArgoCD
    • Apache Kafka / Pulsar
    • Linux based environments and bash shell scripting
    • Java SpringBoot / TypeScript / Python / Perl / C++
    • RESTful / HTTP / Grafana / WebSockets
    • XML / JSON / SQL
    • SQL (e.g., PostgreSQL) and NoSQL based DBs (e.g., Mongo)
    • js / Apache Web Server
    • Atlassian management/software development tools: Jira / Bitbucket / Crucible / Confluence
    • CI/CD Pipelining (Bitbucket, Jenkins, GitLab, JFrog Artifactory, JFrog X-Ray)
    • Micro services architectures
    • Gov and non-Gov AWS cloud environments

We’ll also need you to:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Ability to work in the office at least 3 days a week to foster collaboration with the team and stakeholders (Chandler, AZ)

 

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in an office setting and is largely sedentary with the majority of the position working with a computer. The role typically requires the use of basic office equipment such as a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse, and printer.
