What We’re Looking For:

Iridium is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Manager of Data Management and Engineering to join our Team. In this role you’ll be responsible for managing multiple cross-functional activities and projects, including design, implementation, maintenance and operation of the cloud-based data infrastructure that drives operational efficencies and decision making at Iridium. As the Manager of Data Management and Engineering, your primary focus will be driving our data modernization efforts to migrate our legacy on-prem data platforms onto our consolidated cloud-based platform. You’ll be successful in this role if you enjoy taking a vision, creating a roadmap, and working with a cross-functional team to make it a reality.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead and manage the Data Management/Engineering team, ensuring high performance and continuous development by performing regular check-ins, discussing career growth opportunities, giving constructive feedback, and effectively managing performance
  • Direct the strategic vision for Data Management & Engineering at Iridium and deliver the resulting platform and capabilities
  • Lead a team of data engineering professionals in the creation of data pipelines and build out of our consolidated cloud-based data platform in Snowflake. This includes:
    • Manage the team’s workload by leveraging our Agile process
    • Provide technical leadership and direction to the team on platform and development process
    • Drive successful operation of our data pipelines through partnerships with external teams and internal resources
    • Monitor and optimize the performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of cloud data solutions
  • Collaborate with the BI & Analytics teams to design and create Iridium’s data products
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of Data Engineering deliverables through data validation and quality assurance practices
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to understand their business needs and develop solutions to meet those needs
  • Partner across the Data Management & Analytics group to develop and implement Iridium’s data governance framework
  • Participate in the creation, implementation, and adoption of the Data & Analytics Center of Excellence
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices in data analysis & business intelligence and implement these insights as appropriate

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field
  • 8 years of relevant experience in a data analysis/business intelligence; Minimum 2 years management experience or demonstrated ability to lead a team on a large business intelligence project
  • Exceptional leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex data concepts in a clear and concise manner to non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience with the following technologies is required:
    • Cloud Data Platforms (Snowflake prefered)
    • Strong– SQL development skills
    • Data Engineering concepts and tools (dbt, Git, CI/CD, etc.)
    • AWS Cloud Data Tools (S3, Glue, Athena, Step Functions/Lambda, etc.)
  • Ability to motivate, act as a role model, and provide direction for your team in order to meet your team’s goals
  • A people-oriented mentality and ability to build meaningful relationships with senior leadership throughout the organization
  • Ability to analyze and understand a situation or problem and think critically to make decisions, come up with and evaluate unique solutions, and see those solutions through to completion
  • A strong sense of urgency in driving projects to completion and motivation to achieve outcomes and results
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment and efficiently manage multiple or complex projects while continuously looking for new and enhanced ways of doing things
  • Be self-motivated and possess a high degree of creativity, independence, and resourcefulness  
  • Can thrive in a dynamic environment and efficiently manage multiple projects for yourself and your team while meeting deadlines 

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • Familiarity with Business Intelligence platforms such as PowerBI
  • Experience with data governance.

We’ll also need you to:

  • Be able to work in the office at least 3 or more days a week to foster collaboration with the team and stakeholders 
  • U.S. Citizenship required

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in an office setting and is largely sedentary with the majority of the position working with a computer. The role typically requires the use of basic office equipment such as a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse, and printer.
