Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

What We’re Looking For:

Iridium is seeking a talented and motivated entry level Engineer I to join our Systems Integration and Test team. As an Engineer I, you will contribute to the research, development, testing, and sustainment of engineering activities of the Iridium services and satellite operations. Working in this role, you will assist with test case development of new products and services, provide research, perform data entry and support other team members. You’ll thrive in this role if you have a desire to learn, and have a vested interest in the long-term success of your work. Education in engineering practices and software/hardware testing, as well as a desire to build technical skills, is also necessary to your success in this position.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Conduct test planning, procedure development, test execution, research and data entry for all aspects of the Iridium system including but not limited to:
    • Testing of payload communications
    • Iridium GSM based telephony and services
    • Ground Telemetry, Tracking and Control (TT&C)
    • K-Band communication links
    • Space Vehicle (SV) to L-Band subscriber equipment
    • Space flight vehicle bus/platform operations
    • Ground network configurations
    • Software tool development and maintenance
  • Work collaboratively with team members (software, hardware, and system development engineers ) across various functional disciplines to ensure high product quality and to support project delivery milestones
  • Assist in documenting, recreating and isolating reported software and/or hardware defects found during test and in support of constellation operations
  • Collaborate with your team to identify test, programmatic, and services implementation risks and support the mitigation of risks and issues identified
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of test plans and procedures
  • Aid in the development, maintenance, and execution of test scripts for feature, defect, and regression testing
  • Follow best practices while identifying improvements that add value and reduce cycle time and cost

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field experience
  • General knowledge of network switches and routers
  • An interest in providing high-quality, cost-effective system integration, test, and support services
  • Must be results driven with strong sense of ownership
  • Microsoft Windows and Office skills, specifically with Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Teams
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate key messages and ideas clearly and effectively
  • Can cultivate meaningful relationships with your manager and members of your team, while being open and responsive to constructive feedback as they guide and mentor you
  • The ability to think outside the box to help solve problems, with the humility to ask for help when needed
  • Adaptability to a dynamic environment and the readiness to take on any new tasks that are handed to you
  • Capable of handling multiple tasks at once and completing them on time with mostly no errors
  • An eagerness to develop professionally, continuously learn, and share knowledge with others

 Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • Previous exposure to the following:
    • Software management tools (JIRA, GIT, and/or Bamboo)
    • Experience developing software in Java, and Python or other computer languages
    • High-availability software and hardware systems
    • Systems troubleshooting approaches and methodologies
    • Systems integration
    • Agile software development process
    • Laboratory test equipment (network analyzers, state machine driven traffic simulators, protocol analyzers, etc.)
  • Knowledge of the Linux and/or Unix operating systems
  • Cisco or other network certifications

We’ll also need you to:

  • Willing and able to be on-call to support operational issues
  • US Citizenship is required due to work on government projects

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse and printer. For meetings in person, this position will need to be able stand, walk within the office and climb stairs on occasion.
