Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

What We’re Looking For:

Iridium is seeking a Senior Technical Project Manager to join our Technology Development and Operations team. As a Senior Technical Project Manager, you will manage projects by working with internal and external customers and lead multi-discipline engineering project team(s) to identify, gain approval for, and implement engineering solutions for new service and product projects. You will be successful in this position if you have a passion for driving projects from start to finish, development and creative problem solving.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Independently own projects from concept to award (for externally funded projects) and through planning and final delivery while actively managing quality and financial controls
  • Be responsible for responding to RFPs (Requests for Proposal), RFIs (Requests for Information), and RFQs (Requests for Quotation), as well as write white papers
  • Develop project execution strategies including gates, milestones, deliverables, and acquisition strategy leading internal and external teams to execute the full spectrum of the project
  • Manage projects, hold regular meetings, and produce weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports for customers as well as for internal purposes
  • Coordinate internal activities to ensure major milestones are progressed in line with the program requirements
  • Identify and manage project risks to minimize impact to the program
  • Play a key role in coordinating and leading/hosting major milestone meetings with the customer

Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in Project Management, including relevant experience in satellite, telcomm, and/or telcomm user equipment space
  • 5+ years of applicable experience in planning and executing technical development and integration projects
  • Engineering or program management experience in communications and/or network systems
  • Experience managing proposal teams and executing proposals
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey products, deliverables, analyses, and/or issues clearly and confidently, and recognize and adapt to different communication techniques
  • Can easily build meaningful relationships with others, including senior leadership outside of your own department, and is comfortable providing constructive feedback to your team members and management
  • Be able to analyze a situation or problem, generate effective solutions, and see those solutions through to completion
  • Must possess the creativity and resourcefulness needed to make reliable decisions and determine methods on new assignments
  • Can thrive in a dynamic environment by handling multiple tasks and managing shifting priorities
  • Be proactive in sharing knowledge you’ve learned with others

 

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering or related field
  • PMI/PMP Certification
  • Knowledge of LEO satellite systems
  • Agile development project experience
  • Active/current Secret Security Clearance

We’ll also need you to:

  • Be able to travel up to10%
  • Be a U.S. Citizen

 

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse, and printer.
