Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

What We’re Looking For:

We are seeking a versatile software manager to develop cutting-edge embedded/realtime software solutions to optimize our satellite software. In this role, your duties will include supervising junior and senior software engineers, analyzing software performance and configuration systems, and managing the deployment and integration of new software. You will also be required to hire new software engineers.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Foster and develop a highly effective team of embedded/real-time software engineers to improve the existing Iridium Application Software (ASW) and Middleware (MW) capabilities and to add new services and capabilities
  • Mentor and train your team by performing regular check-ins, discussing career growth opportunities, giving constructive feedback, and managing conflict when necessary
  • Work independently to organize, monitor and report on multiple projects
  • Function/serve as the teams agile scrum master to facilitate daily standups, sprint reviews, sprint retrospectives and sprint planning sessions
  • Mobilize the team to respond to on orbit anomalies and organize the effort to investigate the anomaly and propose solutions for resolving or working around the issue
  • Ensure the team uses approved development practices
  • Collaborate with other managers, the Satellite Software Product Owner and technical leads to maintain and improve the software development processes and practices
  • Work with multiple project managers to allocate team members on various projects to meet corporate priorities
  • Manage overhead budget for your team with regards to travel, training, and awards

Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, computer science or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in software development and team leadership
  • 5+ years of management or leadership experience
  • Experience with agile practices
  • Capable of being a strong motivator and source of direction for your team and role modelling commitment to your team’s goals
  • Have a people-oriented mentality and be able to build meaningful relationships with senior leadership on your team and in other departments
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex results and ideas and be open to other points of view
  • Be able to analyze and understand a situation or problem and think critically to make decisions, come up with and evaluate unique solutions, and see those solutions through to completion
  • Be independent and self-motivated and demonstrate a high degree of creativity, flexibility, and resourcefulness
  • Have a strong sense of urgency in driving projects to completion and be motivated to achieve outcomes and results
  • Can thrive in a dynamic environment and efficiently manage multiple or complex projects while continuously looking for new and enhanced ways of doing things

 

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • Have worked in the embedded space software industry
  • Have Scrum master certification
  • Have experience managing agile teams

 

We’ll also need you to:

  • Be on call to support on-orbit anomaly resolution
  • Be able to travel up to 2 times a year
  • Be able to work a hybrid role- 3 days in-office (T-TH) and 2 days from home
  • US Citizen with no Dual Citizenship

 

 

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse and printer. For meetings in-person, this position will need to be able stand, walk within the office and climb stairs on occ
