Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

What We’re Looking For:

If you have experience in procurement and subcontracts working with the Department of Defense (DOD), you will be excited about the Senior Government Procurement Manager position with Iridium on our Legal Contracts team.  As a Procurement Manager you will collaborate with our Government Programs and Operations teams to understand their procurement needs and provide guidance and support with the goal of advancing the company’s Government sector business. You will thrive in this role if you enjoy working both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. 

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Develop and implement procurement tools, policies, procedures, and strategies to optimize the procurement process and ensure compliance with government standards
  • Make decisions for buying government sourcing parts with responsibility for the managing supplier costs, schedules, and technical performance on moderate to high risk, modified Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) and performance specification DOD programs
  • Prepare bid packages, conduct bidders' conferences, develop evaluation criteria, analyze and evaluate proposals, negotiate subcontract provisions including price, selects or recommends subcontractors, write subcontract packages, prepare awards and administer resulting subcontracts and required change activity
  • Be responsible for placing purchase orders for FAR 12 or FAR 15 requirements and signing supplier agreements and purchase orders within established authority
  • Lead the development of subcontract specifications, work statements, and terms and conditions for the procurement of specialized materials, equipment, and services for subcontract systems in support of development, production, and sustainment prime contracts with multiple contract types
  • Support Iridium’s Government customers and prime contractors as well as identify cost reduction opportunities while adhering to FAR/DFAR regulations
  • Help maintain awareness of and compliance with government purchasing rules, contracting requirements, applicable statutes and regulations, industry best practices and company policies and procedures
  • Assist with cost accounting compliance as it relates to price and cost analytics

Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in purchasing, subcontracts, supply chain or related field
  • Previous management experience required
  • Be independent and self-motivated and demonstrate a high degree of creativity, flexibility, and resourcefulness
  • Have a strong sense of urgency in driving projects to completion and be motivated to achieve outcomes and results
  • Have a people-oriented mentality and be able to build meaningful relationships with senior leadership on your team and in other departments
  • Demonstrated deep knowledge of the FAR, DFARS and related acquisition regulations and procedures, including cost-reimbursement contracts
  • Experience with DOD Contractor Purchasing System Reviews (CPSR) and working with DOD agencies
  • Ability to identify and navigate negotiation of terms and conditions for commercial items and custom development on the same contract
  • Strong familiarity with tools, processes and software applications that support federal government contracting activities
  • Customer service-oriented with unquestioned ethics and integrity
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey products, deliverables, analyses, and/or issues clearly and confidently, and recognize and adapt to different communication techniques
  • Have confidence and be able to easily build relationships with leadership and colleagues outside of your team
  • Be able to analyze and understand a situation or problem and think critically to make decisions, come up with and evaluate unique solutions, and see those solutions through to completion
  • Be proactive in providing feedback and be enthusiastic in sharing your knowledge with others
  • Capable of prioritizing your own tasks and potentially the tasks of others while making sure deadlines are met
  • Can thrive in a dynamic environment and efficiently manage multiple or complex projects while continuously looking for new and enhanced ways of doing things

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CPCM or CFCM)

 We’ll also need you to:

  • Possess a U.S. Department of Defense security clearance, or have the ability to obtain and maintain one
  • Be able to travel for business up to 10%
  • Be a U.S. citizen

  

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse, and printer.
