Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

The Iridium Internship Program is an opportunity for students to be a part of the Iridium teams shaping the future of satellite communications. As an Intern, you’ll begin making an impact on real projects from day one! Come prepared to grow, develop, and learn alongside a team and the leaders of our company. The Iridium Internship program is a 12-week program that runs from May 27, 2025 to August 15, 2025. During the program, interns will have the opportunity to provide valuable support to an Iridium department on a project or important work assignment. Interns will also be provided an opportunity to engage with senior leadership and fellow interns via regular engagement activities. Interns will participate in an end of internship presentation, where we ask them to reflect on their summer internships and present a summary of what they have learned and accomplished.

 

What We’re Looking For:

 

The Gateway Integration and Test team is seeking a bright Engineering Intern to support their efforts in integrating equipment from vendors into the lab and testing it with on-orbit assets. As a member of this this team you will contribute to the development and maintenance of test plans and procedures and test scripts for feature, defect, and regression testing.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Test planning, procedure development and test execution, research and data entry for all aspects of the Iridium system
  • Assist in documenting, recreating and isolating reported software and/or hardware defects found during test and in support of constellation operations.
  • Collaborate with your team to identify test, programmatic, and services implementation risks and support the mitigation of risks and issues identified
  • Software management tools (JIRA, GIT, and/or Bamboo)
  • Experience developing software in Java, and Python or other computer languages
  • Systems troubleshooting approaches and methodologies and systems integration

 

Skills You’ll Obtain:

  • Real-world experience in chosen field of interest and related topics through multiple hands-on projects

  • Critical thinking and analytical skills

  • Work collaboratively with team members (software, hardware, and system development engineers ) across various functional disciplines

  • Conduct test planning, procedure development and test execution, research and data entry for all aspects of the Iridium system

  • Assist in documenting, recreating and isolating reported software and/or hardware defects found during test and in support of constellation operations.

  • Collaborate with your team to identify test, programmatic, and services implementation risks and support the mitigation of risks and issues identified

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of test plans and procedures and test scripts for feature, defect, and regression testing

  • Follow best practices while identifying improvements that add value and reduce cycle time and cost

  • Knowledge of the Linux and/or Unix operating systems

Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
  • Must be currently enrolled in a bachelors or graduate degree program at an accredited academic institution
    • Engineering, Computer Science or related degree
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must be eligible to work in person
