Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

What We’re Looking For:

If you enjoy learning about and working with breakthrough technologies, we want to hear from you!  We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join our Aireon/Iridium HPOC Development team. As the Principal Software Engineer, you will apply advanced expertise in cutting edge technologies to develop and deploy Aireon/Iridium payload ground control software and supporting user service capabilities. You will also provide expertise and peer mentorship within the larger development team to support cross-functional efforts and collaboration across design and full stack development activities.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead collaborative efforts and initiatives with the Aireon/Iridium development and engineering team to develop new ground software components founded upon modern languages and deployment techniques
  • Develop optimized code for both scalability, performance, and availability in support of customer concepts, requirements, and operational use cases
  • Independently deliver results following Aireon processes for prioritization, configuration management, risk management, and software development processes.
  • Proactively prototype, build, and test software implementations to roadmap design and implementation concepts to production
  • Develop software within the Aireon-defined Agile/Scrum framework and DevOps Azure development environment
  • Plan and execute software releases, providing input into stakeholder/program planning, schedules, and budgets
  • Confidently present complex information to groups outside of your team through briefings, demonstrations, and documentation covering planned implementation, or issue resolutions, with limited preparation
  • Utilize your expertise with cloud and on-premises computing to architect and deploy geographically diverse high available micro-service solutions
  • Leverage knowledge to make enhancements to process/procedure/training documentation and identify technical training needs
  • Mentor junior level developers in the design and implementation approaches
  • Deliver constructive, meaningful feedback and proactively offer guidance and knowledge-sharing with team members

Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related engineering discipline
  • 10+ years of software programming experience
  • The ability to create or maintain a high availability architecture
  • Effective Microsoft Office skills
  • The ability to learn, work with, and become proficient with open-source packages to leverage your development efficiency
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey products, deliverables, analyses, and/or issues clearly and confidently, and recognize and adapt to different communication techniques
  • Can easily build meaningful relationships with others, including senior leadership outside of your own department, and is comfortable providing constructive feedback to your team members and management
  • Be able to analyze a situation or problem, generate effective solutions, and see those solutions through to completion
  • Must possess the creativity and resourcefulness needed to make reliable decisions and determine methods on new assignments
  • Can thrive in a dynamic environment by handling multiple tasks and managing shifting priorities
  • Be proactive in sharing knowledge you’ve learned with others
  • Have a strong work ethic and a positive attitude when taking on ever increasing SW development tasks

    • Micro services architectures build on ubi8/ubi9 container images
    • Docker / Podman / Kubernetes (AKS)
    • C# / C++ / Python / Java / Type Script
    • NATS.io messaging
    • Redhat based environments
    • Azure DevOps development/deployment environment and processes
    • Helm Charts
    • Grafana
    • RESTful / HTTP / WebSockets / XML / JSON
    • Atlassian Cloud management/software development tools: Jira / Bitbucket / Crucible / Confluence
    • Role based authentication, secrets management, Azure RBAC
    • Automated testing frameworks

We’ll also need you to:

  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Ability to work in the office at least 3 days a week to foster collaboration with the team and stakeholders

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse and printer. For meetings in-person, this position will need to be able stand, walk within the office and climb stairs on occasion.
