Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

What We’re Looking For:

Iridium is seeking a lead Systems Engineer to direct the development of the Radio Access Network (RAN) for Iridium’s new portfolio of 3GPP services. As the technical lead you will be responsible for all aspects of the RAN development including segment level architecture, interfaces, and modification of existing Iridium components. In addition, you will lead the team in fast-paced prototyping of the RAN system. This will require the ability to deliver high-quality results in a CI/CD environment and the ability to provide complex solutions that support 3GPP standards and Iridium’s unique requirements. You’ll be successful in this role if you have extensive experience as a Systems Engineer and expertise in the Iridium System and in 3GPP technology.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead the RAN technical team development on all aspects of design, prototyping and implementation
  • Lead the team in the practice and implementation of CI/CD as well as SAFe®/AGILE practices
  • Work with different stakeholders, segments and sub-contractors to ensure that the development remains on-track and delivers a high quality product
  • Oversee generation, management, analysis and decomposition of RAN requirements, capabilities, features and user stories
  • Use subject matter expertise to drive and define line of business/functional knowledge, ensuring system engineering best practices and processes are applied to RAN development effort
  • Be responsible for exercising technical authority over areas within the RAN segment
  • Conduct required system analysis and trade studies, analyzing multiple data sources to respond to frequent, complex, and high impact situations

Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

Things You Must Bring to the Table:

  • BS or MS degree in engineering or related technical field
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in the Satellite industry
  • Experience working with software and hardware development, systems engineering practices and integration of COTS equipment, COTS software and customer software for specialized applications
  • Experience in the SAFe®/AGILE practices
  • Experience in leading test and analysis activities of complex communications and/or space-based systems
  • Working knowledge of 3GPP standards and the Iridium system
  • Working knowledge of implementing solutions in AWS

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • Familiarity with the Atlassian tools suite such as JIRA and R4J and Confluence

We’ll also need you to:

  • Willing and able to travel up to 25 %
  • Due to ITAR, US Citizenship is required

 

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse and printer. For meetings in person, this position will need to be able stand, walk within the office and climb stairs on occasion.
