Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

What We’re Looking For:

Embark on an exciting journey in the world of satellite communication as a Configuration Control Specialist at Iridium. With your experience, you'll play an important role in the success of our Satellite Communication Systems. Joining our dynamic team, you'll help execute program and project Operations Configuration Control efforts, implementing release processes and software builds. Additionally, you'll contribute to change management, product release strategies, and other related tasks. What You’ll Do:

  • Support Software, Systems and Operations Engineering in the identification of project/program configuration items and associated configuration documentation
  • Collaborate with our architecture, infrastructure, and core CRM development teams to automate operations for the software development teams
  • Facilitate Change Control Boards and track change records from creation to release and implementation
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and internal and external customers to ensure compliance with all regulatory and Software CM requirements
  • Oversee software builds, and deployments
  • Troubleshoot failed builds, and collaboratinge with the appropriate development team when needed
  • Participate in emergency incident response and investigations
  • Show willingness to research and implement continuous process improvements to processes and utilize technologies used more effectively
  • Produce Software CM related metrics and report to project/program stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with manufacturing license agreements, export compliance, security regulations and Iridum’s information protection processes
  • Perform Scrum Master role for projects following an Agile based methodology

Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering or similar program, or equivalent combination or work and education
  • 5+ years’ experience in Configuration or Release Engineering is required.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to confidently present products, deliverables, analyses, and/or issues
  • Possess an analytical mindset, with the ability to understand a situation or problem and think critically to make decisions or come up with solutions
  • Be comfortable managing upward, including being a proactive communicator and asking for help when needed
  • Have confidence and be able to establish valuable relationships with others
  • Must be able to prioritize key tasks and have a strong sense of ownership over your work
  • Be active in seeking out ways to continuously improve yourself and gain new knowledge
  • Consistently demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the principles and practices of quality assurance, as well as basic project management methodologies
  • Consistently demonstrate knowledge of the principles and practices of agile software development
  • Willingness to research new processes and technologies
  • Must have strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • In depth knowledge of data, hardware, and software CM principles and practices

 

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • CM and/or DM Certification e.g. CMTF, NDIA or CDM
  • Experience with scripting language (e.g., bash, python, perl) and Linux Redhat OS is preferred
  • Experience with software version control software like BitBucket, GitLab, ClearCase
  • Experience with software build automation using Jenkins, GitLab Runners, and Conan
  • Experience using Jira to track changes, manage Sprints and Kanban boards, create structures and manage requirments using R4J
  • Proficient using Excel to create reports

We’ll also need you to:

  • Due to ITAR/EAR restrictions, must be a US Citizen
  • Experience with Atlassian Tool Suite, ClearCase, and working with databases required
  • Experience in the software configuration management discipline including Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI), AS9100 or ISO:20000-1

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse, and printer.
