Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

What We’re Looking For:

Iridium is seeking a motivated Principal 3GPP Network Architect to join our System Architecture Team. As a Principal 3GPP Network Architect, you’ll work closely with senior management to establish strategic plans and objectives, including managing delivery of high-quality results and complex solutions. The Principal 3GPP Network Architect is responsible for developing the strategic vision for the evolution of Iridium ground network to support new services and users as terrestrial and satellite networks converge. An important element of this will be identifying opportunities to leverage emerging 3GPP technologies and other wireless technologies and standards to extend and enhance the current suite of capabilities available to our customers. In this role, your primary focus will be building and aligning the strategy, and working with technical teams to build a roadmap for adoption. You’ll be successful in this role if you enjoy developing a long-term vision and working with cross-functional teams to establish best practices, create roadmaps, and deliver on that strategic vision.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Develop 3GPP based deployment options for Iridium services
  • Craft solutions to ensure our safety-of-life services meet stringent service availability goals
  • Analyze options for incorporating 3GPP architectures to respond to customer opportunities and support our long-term strategic goals
  • Play a key role in setting architectural patterns for new developments. Act as an agent of change within the company
  • Manage competing constraints for both long-term goals and operational requirements when architecting solutions
  • Provide subject matter expertise to ensure architectural plans are well communicated and well documented and the system architecture is evolvable and sustainable
  • Implements improvements by setting objectives and effectively managing multiple priorities

Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field OR equivalent relevant experience in lieu of degree
  • 15+ years of relevant experience in developing and architecting complex wireless solutions
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present information, drive discussion, and respond to difficult scenarios with limited preparation across all audiences
  • Skilled in 5G, 5G NTN and 5G NB-IOT system architecture and deployments. Ability to apply best practices from these systems
  • The ability to build productive relationships with all levels of leadership and promote collaboration across multiple departments, with the ability to convey abstract, complex concepts clearly, simply and confidently
  • Be able to think on your feet to respond to difficult situations and resolve issues, including being able to generate compelling architectural options, and support a team decision process to balance long-term goals with short-term constraints and operational concerns
  • Must possess good judgement and decisiveness
  • Actively looks for ways to enhance and improve current processes and procedures
  • Skilled at managing multiple priorities while ensuring that work is of high quality
  • Must be proactive in seeking out knowledge and sharing what you’ve learned with others
  • Work effectively with diverse teams across the business. Act as a business partner and collaborate to align others with your vision
  • Experience with configuration management, green/blue deployments and CI/CD for 5G solutions, as well as high availability architectural design patterns needed to meet telecom grade availability requirements
  • Fluent in security best practices for 5G solutions

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • Experience in 3GPP standards setting process
  • Experience with 3GPP roaming integration with MVNOs

We’ll also need you to:

  • Be able to travel to meeting with vendors
  • US Citizenship required

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse and printer. For in-person meetings, this position will need to be able stand, walk within the office and climb stairs on occasion.
