What We’re Looking For:

Iridium is seeking a Senior Lead Security Engineer to identify and autonomously lead the implementation of solutions that provide and improve the security posture of the Iridium Commercial and Mission Networks. As a Senior Lead Security Engineer, you’ll also be responsible for configuring and maintaining firewall polices and controls, implementing security policies, configuring and maintaining site-to-site and remote access VPNs, designing and documenting security policies and procedures, and collaborating with the Enterprise security team in maintaining a strong cybersecurity posture for the entire program.

What You’ll Do:

• Identify and lead projects’ implementation with the goal of improving and modernizing Iridium Commercial Network security posture
• Recommend and/or implement security tools to improve the overall network security posture
• Perform installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of security and networking hardware and operating systems
• Lead day-to-day activities such as: firewall changes, VPN setup, and managing, monitoring, and maintaining VPN tunnels, security logs and events/alarms required to meet compliance
• Maintain data center infrastructure equipment such as IP switching, routers, and firewalls including but not limited to Cisco hardware (Cisco Catalyst L3 switching and Nexus 7K/5K/3K/2K platforms) and firewalls (Cisco ASA and FirePower, Fortinet Fortigate, Check Point, and Palo Alto firewalls)
• Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the network and security industry, technologies, and best practices
• Provide real time troubleshooting and problem resolution as required, and create new, unconventional solutions to address problems or make decisions
• Mentor and train junior level administrators

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline OR equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, or training
• 8+ years of direct work experience
• Experience managing and maintaining Cisco, Fortinet, Check Point, and Palo Alto firewalls, VPN technologies, Cisco routers, switches, and other vendor networking and security technologies
• Strong understanding of and multi-year hands-on experience with IP communication protocols such as OSI Model, Spanning-Tree, VDC, VFR, VTP, VSS, and routing protocols such as OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP
• Knowledge of security technologies such as IPS/IDS, DPI, AV, and TLS/SSL
• Familiarity with cloud services such as AWS, GCP, and Azure
• Proficiency with platforms such as SolarWinds, logs aggregation, and IP traffic capture and analysis
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey products, deliverables, analyses, and/or issues to groups outside of your team or those who are unfamiliar with the topic
• Have confidence and be able to easily build relationships with leadership and colleagues outside of your team
• Capable of prioritizing your own tasks and potentially the tasks of others while making sure deadlines are met
• Possess an analytical mindset, with the ability to understand a situation or problem and think critically to make decisions and come up with out-of-the-box solutions
• Be proactive in providing feedback and be enthusiastic in sharing your knowledge with others
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem management skills in a dynamic environment

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

• Cisco and/or Firewall vendors security certifications
• Experience working in UNIX/Linux, preferably Red Hat and VMware virtualized environments
• Familiarity with mid-to-large scale LAN/WAN networks and security

We’ll also need you to:

• Provide 24/7 on call assistance as needed
• US Citizenship is required
• Ability to lift 25 pounds and climb a 6-foot ladder

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse and printer. For meetings in-person, this position will need to be able stand, walk within the office and climb stairs on occasion.
