Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

What We’re Looking For:

Iridium is seeking a Systems Administrator to join our Mission/Test Operations team. As a Systems Administrator III, you’ll be responsible for the administration and maintenance of the Iridium test environment and our on-premises Linux OS/Networking/VMWare infrastructure. Working in this role, you’ll gain valuable experience in managing Linux, VMware, and UCS systems while making a meaningful impact on deployment to both test and commercial services. You’ll thrive in this role if you enjoy learning in and adapting to a fast-paced environment where you can use multiple skills to deliver high quality solutions.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Be responsible for the administration, maintenance, tuning, and troubleshooting of development and production operations, which includes administering VMware, Cisco, and Linux environments
  • Work with product development teams to troubleshoot and develop the Iridium test environment
  • Independently recognize issues pertaining to Network and Linux systems and propose solutions to these issues
  • Maintain proper Change Control and Configuration Management processes by developing and maintaining process/procedure documentation
  • Support senior team members by facilitating installation and deployment of new systems
  • Maintain server and security configurations in compliance with established best practices and baseline configurations

  • The ability to work well both independently and in team structures, such as with the IT team and other departments, to understand functionality, scalability, performance, security, and integration requirements for all business sites 
  • An analytical mindset, with the ability to investigate potential problems raised by business users and think critically to make decisions and come up with solutions
  • The confidence and comfort to manage upward, including being a proactive communicator and asking for help when needed 
  • The ability to establish valuable relationships with team members and managers
  • The ability to prioritize key tasks and have a strong sense of ownership over your work
  • The ability to continually develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of the supporting application architectures and the general application functionality running on Cisco O/S and Linux O/S
  • Proactivity in seeking out ways to continuously improve yourself and gain new knowledge

Things You Must Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related program of study OR equivalent relevant experience in lieu of degree
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience administering/maintaining UCS, VMware, and/or Linux systems
  • Proficiency with Linux administration
  • Knowledge of VMware installation and administration

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • Any relevant technical certifications (i.e., CompTIA, RHCSA, CCNA, AWS/Azure Cloud certs, etc.)
  • Previous experience with any of the following: 
    • AWS or Azure Cloud VM creation and management
    • Ansible playbook creation and execution experience
    • VMware administration
    • Linux administration
    • Working in a telecommunications environment
    • Iridium test and/or operations

We’ll also need you to:

  • Be on call to support business operations
  • Be a U.S. citizen (due to ITAR restrictions)
