Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

What We're Looking For:

Iridium is seeking to engage with a seasoned professional whose primary focus will be upon the regulatory aspects of Iridium GMDSS and other maritime safety and security services. The individual selected will be expected to interface directly with a wide range of maritime regulatory bodies, including but not limited to international and national organisations. The successful applicant is expected to become an internal/external Subject Matter Expert (SME) on GMDSS regulatory issues.

 

Services To Be Performed:

This position reports to the Director Maritime Safety and Security and provides administrative and regulatory support to the Iridium GMDSS program in the following areas:

  • Working with the Director of Maritime Safety and Security to ensure that the Iridium GMDSS remains complaint with all international and national requirements
  • Coordinate with the GMDSS regulator (IMSO) to assist their regulatory oversight activities
  • Liaise with IMO member states on policy matters and work with these states to both engage and defend Iridium’s interests at various international forums
  • Maintain a working relationship with the IMO Secretariat, IMO committees and other IMO groups to guide policy and represent Iridium at an international level
  • Represent Iridium at various industry groups and organisations providing information and policy advise on maritime and safety issues
  • Assist in the organisation and execution of meeting and contingency exercises required by regulation
  • Business travel may be required from time to time
  • Provide feedback on competitive landscape in terms of regulatory maritime safety and security matters

Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

Education Requirements:

  • University Degree Graduate in a business or technical discipline
  • Knowledge of mobile satellite services is highly desirable but not mandatory
  • Must have excellent written and spoken English, or good knowledge of another major European language

Qualifications:

  • Minimum five years of regulatory focused experience within an organisation familiar with maritime safety and security including GMDSS
  • A strong working knowledge of IMO and other international organisations is essential
  • Strong and demonstratable experience in drafting, refining and delivering technical and regulatory papers to various international maritime forms
  • Self-starter, capable of working remotely, detailed and structured, a good communicator internally and externally, as well as being able to work as part of a small office environment
  • Strategic and solutions oriented, big picture thinking
  • Experience working with US and European management teams
  • Candidate to be located at a mutually agreeable location in Europe, preferably in the UK where IMO HQ are based
  • Candidate must be a European, EEZ or UK national
