Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

What We’re Looking For:

In this newly created role, you will manage an existing powerhouse team and build out a new functional group of engineers to nearly triple the current size over the course of the next two years. As an Associate Director in charge of Continuous Integration and Automated Test Engineering, you will lead all aspects of the continuous integration and automated test of software for the Iridium satellite transceiver product line including managing feature backlogs related to CI and test enhancements, representing all related technical topics, communicating across the company at all levels about status and progress, and leading efficiency-driven value creation throughout the product delivery process. Experience in team building, agile methods, development operations, and software for embedded systems is critical to success in this position. What You’ll Do:

  • Hire, grow, foster, and develop a highly effective team of engineers to feature- and performance-enhance our build and test tools, test suites, and associated processes for the current and future generations of the products that connect people and assets around the globe to the Iridium communications network
  • Mentor and train your team by evaluating employees’ performance, recognizing areas for improvement, and providing reliable solutions to problems that may impact your team’s effectiveness
  • Develop and execute thoughtful and strategic plans for your team by implementing systems, processes, procedures, and tools while advocating core values and standards to achieve organizational goals and the highest level of customer satisfaction
  • Oversee the development, deployment, and maintenance of test systems
  • Analyze and communicate risk exposure on legacy and new products, making and implementing recommendations to minimize risk
  • Manage, lead training efforts, and improve software build processes and systems
  • Lead risk management activities including evaluation and creation of test strategy, test plans, test reports, and continuous improvement plans
  • Perform timing, cost, value, and risk assessments for all exposure facets and prioritization of mitigation approaches
  • Lead the creation and maintenance of risk containment test strategies and regression test suites
  • Contribute to selection and implementation of test approaches across internal departments
  • Maintain configuration management of the test infrastructure software and test scripts
  • Champion continuous integration and automated testing throughout the enterprise
  • Work cross functionally to instill a strong culture of product quality within the organization

Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or technical field
  • 12+ years of related software development and management experience
  • 5+ years of experience of embedded, web, desktop, or test software development
  • Previous management experience running teams developing in C and Python
  • Demonstrated understanding of software production via continuous integration
  • Capable of being an empowering motivator and source of direction for your team and role modelling commitment to your team’s goals
  • Have a people-oriented mentality and be able to seek out and build valuable relationships and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and executive leadership
  • The ability to confidently present on technical and non-technical topics, convince others of your point of view, and tailor your communication style to a wide range of audiences
  • Be a strategic thinker who continuously looks for new and enhanced ways of doing things
  • Possess the creativity, resourcefulness, and decisiveness needed to manage risks and respond to critical situations
  • Have a strong sense of urgency in driving projects to completion and be motivated to achieve expected outcomes and results

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • Formal training in agile methods including Scrum or Kanban
  • Experience with Subversion and Git version control systems
  • Experience using Atlassian management tools (JIRA, Bamboo, etc)
  • Demonstrated understanding of best practices for software version control
  • Demonstrated understanding of software lifecycle maintenance
  • Knowledgeable about embedded software and hardware systems
  • Working knowledge of RF communication systems and protocols

We’ll also need you to:

  • Be able to travel up to 15% annually
  • Be able to travel internationally
  • US Citizenship required
