    Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

    Position Summary:

    We are offering the opportunity to experience the daily operations of our Satellite Network Operations Center (SNOC) through a summer internship with the Engineering team. As part of the internship program you will have the opportunity to work with the Space Systems, Payload Management and Satellite Operations and Ground Development departments. The intern will learn many aspects of Space Vehicle operations from the engineering perspective. The intern will work with Platform engineers to develop operations products which can be used for training, data analysis, investigation, and anomaly recovery. The intern will collaborate work with experts and users. They will use programming to make operational tools to simplify workload. The Intern will also receive first-hand experience of routine satellite operations including commanding satellites! Furthermore, they will assist in the maintenance of our suite of Real Time Operations software tools.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    This is a full-time paid internship position (40 hours per week), beginning May 26, 2020 and ending August 13, 2020. During your 12 week internship program, you will receive hands on exposure and have the opportunity to learn more regarding the following activities:

    • Space Systems Management
      • Work closely with the platform engineers to develop OPS products which can be used for training, data analysis, investigation, and anomaly recovery
      • Work with experts and end users
      • Use programming to make operational tools to simplify workload
      • Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time by management
    • Payload Management
      • Work closely with Lband subsystem engineer to assist with daily operation routine including monitoring/trending of satellites and services performances
      • Tool development to assist with data processing and shorter/longer trending
      • Develop and review test plans for any on-orbit testing related to Lband subsystem/services
      • Procedure development for routine and special test operations
      • Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time by management
    • Mission Real Time Operations
      • Learn basic Operations Support including checklist maintenance, passplan development, basic trouble shooting of Software

    Skills Acquired:

    • A working knowledge of Satellite Operations
    • Communication skills to interact with SMEs for work products
    • Software development using  Perl, Python, MATLAB, Java script and JAVA
    • Technical writing

    Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

    • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
    • Must currently be enrolled in an accredited college or university working on a bachelor's or graduate degree in Computer Science or Engineering
    • Interest in aerospace and/or telecommunications
