This position provides critical ground support and analysis for the Hosted Payload domain in support of the Mission Real-Time operations team. The Hosted Payload Systems Engineer will provide system performance monitoring of the Hosted Payload power, bandwidth, and latency. They will also perform anomaly and issue resolution, troubleshooting, root cause identification, metric gathering, and determining corrective actions for tools, processes, procedures, and software pertaining to Hosted Payload operations. They will also support the development of new processes, procedures, and software tools while implementing continuous process improvement of the Hosted Payload operations domain. Candidate will work normal business hours and provide 24x7 on-call support for real-time troubleshooting and provide CM, QA, Security, and Safety support as required. Position is dependent upon a signed contract and SOW between Aireon and Iridium being completed.
Duties and Responsibilities
All applicants must complete Iridium Satellite Hosted Payload Operator (HPOC) certification. The certification process is a 2 - 3 month, average, combination of in-house classroom training and On-the-Job (OJT) apprenticeship culminating in formal job task demonstration and examination. The applicant must be proficient in a UNIX/LINUX operating system, general programming capabilities, as well as standard PC usage and applications.
Minimum of a BS in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Systems Engineering, Computer Science or related technical discipline or a combination of technical experience in the area of satellite or network operations. Ideal candidates will have work experience of 2-5 years in a satellite or network operations environment. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of satellite operations, Hosted Payload operations, and have strong analysis and system engineering skills. Candidates who have previous experience with Hosted Payload Operations will be preferred. Candidates must have a strong background in troubleshooting and problem solving, and working under tight time constraints. Candidates should be highly motivated as they will be working in a dynamic and evolving operational environment which at times requires rapid response and recovery during 24/7 operations. Candidates must be able to work independently with little to no supervision, as well as be able to work effectively with the HPOC operators, developers, and quality control specialists.
