    Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

    This position is responsible for the administration and maintenance of the Iridium Commercial OS and MSSQL environments. Job duties include configuration, maintenance, data backup and recovery, performance tuning, upgrades, patches and troubleshooting. Will work with Network, Security, MySQL DBA, and Service SMEs to provide highly available and reliable systems to support Iridium employees and business departments.


    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Administration, maintenance, tuning and troubleshooting of development and production operations, which includes administering Windows and Linux environments and MSSQL Databases
    • Ensure proper backup processes are in place to allow for full recovery of sites and documents
    • Service and coordinate user requests for changes and enhancements to environments
    • Evaluate tools and applications relevant to the sites
    • Maintain proper change control and configuration management processes
    • Assist with planning and designing architecture to support scalability of existing sites and provide for new site requests
    • Monitor sites daily, respond to alerts, and provide on-call support
    • Create scripts to automate tasks
    • Expertise with Linux, Windows, and Active Directory
    • Experience with MSSQL a plus
    • Familiarity with performance tuning strategies as well as disaster recovery strategies
    • Provide regular metrics and reporting as directed
    • Other duties may be assigned by management

    Job Requirements:

    • Responsible for providing day-to-day support and maintenance for Linux and Windows OS, Active Directory and MSSQL
    • Investigating potential problems and issues raised by business users; this includes on-call support
    • Monitor site events to proactively optimize system and application performance
    • Work with the team to automate procedures where possible and to promote rapid response to known issues
    • Work with other teams to promote changes to production and other environments
    • Be accountable for maintaining server and security configurations in compliance with established best practices and established baseline configurations
    • Oversee data fixes for business issues or to address network logon and application issues
    • Accountable for proper backup and disaster recovery procedures
    • Work in conjunction with other IT groups and company departments to understand functionality, scalability, performance, security, and integration requirements for all business sites
    • Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of the supporting application architectures and the general application functionality running on Windows and Linux
    • Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time by management
    • Suggest improvements and seek additional training to maintain skills necessary to execute duties

    Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

    • US Citizenship required
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/MIS or equivalent experience
    • 5+ years Linux experience
    • 3+ years Windows and Active Directory experience
    • Knowledge of Security Best Practices, System Performance Tuning, Backup/Restore, and Disaster Recovery Planning
    • Relevant technical certifications a plus
    • Project management skills a plus
    • Experience in a telecommunications environment a plus
