    Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

    Software development and maintenance technical lead for the following areas:

    • Generation and management of Next Satellite upload products
    • Next Satellite Control

    Additionally, provide expertise and experience within the larger development team to support all areas of software development within Satellite Operations and Ground Development.

     

    Duties and Responsibilities:

     

    • Must be customer oriented and responsive to software control boards
    • Must follow/develop Iridium processes for Change Control, Prioritization, Risk Management, COTS Management, Test and Build
    • Must have ability to develop optimized code for both scalability and performance
    • Must have the ability to work within the Agile/Scrum framework for software development (Atlassian tool suite desired)
    • Create or maintain build environments for software products (including transitioning the L3 InControl build environment to Iridium)
    • Plan and execute software releases per direction of stakeholders
    • Update issue/feature data in software tracking tools (JIRA or ALM Complete)
    • Effectively communicate to all stakeholders, through briefings and documentation, planned implementation or issue resolutions
    • Possess or develop expert level familiarity with InControl (Satellite Control software)
    • Possess or develop expert level familiarity with OSComet (Satellite Control software)
    • Prepare training materials for other development personnel and mentor junior engineers

    Job Requirements:

    • Excellent communicator as necessary to communicate complex behaviors and factors as it relates to issues and performance to both engineers and management
    • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
    • Exceptional problem solving and data mining skills
    • Ability to comprehend technical documentation
    • Ability to create or maintain a high availability architecture
    • Experience with XML file formats
    • Experience with issue tracking tools (JIRA preferred) and code repositories (GIT/Clear Case preferred)
    • Lead and coordinate development in selected technical areas and report to Ground software development manager
    • Strong working knowledge of Space Vehicle logical and physical interfaces
    • Advanced UNIX experience and shell programming
    • Proficient in software development using Java, C++, C, Perl (Matlab and Python is a plus)
    • Effective MS Office skills
    • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to use reference documentation
    • Satellite ground network experience is a plus

    Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

    • Must be a US Citizen
    • Bachelor’s degree in a science related major required
    • Minimum of 15 years software programming experience
    • Minimum of 10 years satellite program experience
    • Minimum of 7 years satellite control ground systems experience
    • Minimum of 5 years working with ClearCase for integrated development
    • Minimum of 5 years working with databases (Oracle, SyBase, Mongo, MySQL etc.)
