This position provides critical ground and satellite operations development and support for the Mission Real-Time operations team. The development function ranges from small script and software tool development and maintenance, to large scale software development projects. The development function requires ability to lead efforts for requirements gathering, schedule development, and coordinating development with junior Satellite Operations and Development Engineers. The support function includes development of processes, procedures, and software tools for Iridium Operations ground, satellite, and Hosted Payload operations. The support function also includes anomaly and issue resolution, troubleshooting, and identifying root cause and determining corrective actions for software tools for Iridium Operations ground, satellite, and Hosted Payload operations. Candidate will work normal business hours and provide 24x7 on-call support.
Duties and Responsibilities
All applicants must complete Iridium Satellite Flight Operations Specialist (FOS) familiarization. The certification process is a 2 - 3 month, average, combination of in-house classroom training and On-the-Job (OJT) apprenticeship culminating in formal job task demonstration and examination. The applicant must be proficient in a UNIX/LINUX operating system, general programming capabilities, as well as standard PC usage and applications.
Minimum of a BS in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related technical discipline or a combination of technical experience in the area of satellite operations and development. Ideal candidates will have work experience of 10+ years in satellite operations and development environment. Candidates must have a strong background in troubleshooting and problem solving, and working under tight time constraints. Candidates should also be efficient in several programming languages and have experience developing software tools and applications for a real-time operations environment. Candidates should be highly motivated as they will be working in a dynamic and evolving operational environment which at times requires rapid response from the support and development functions. Candidates must be able to work independently with little to no supervision, as well as be able to mentor junior personnel in industry best practices related to the position.
