    Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

    Summary:  

     

    This position provides critical ground and satellite operations development and support for the Mission Real-Time operations team. The development function ranges from small script and software tool development and maintenance, to large scale software development projects, with an emphasis on web-based tool development. The support function includes development of processes, procedures, and software tools for Iridium Operations ground, satellite, and Hosted Payload operations.  The support function includes anomaly and issue resolution, troubleshooting, and identifying root cause and determining corrective actions for software tools for Iridium Operations ground, satellite, and Hosted Payload operations.  Candidate will work normal business hours.

     

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Provide systems engineering support to maintain and develop new processes, procedures, and software tools focused on continuous process improvement and more efficient operations, with an emphasis on web-based tool development
    • Develop and maintain operational tools and software in order to provide streamlined automated and mechanized satellite ground operations
    • Develop and maintain operational software tools including writing and delivering fixes for critical features and defects and develop new software applications as requested to support hybrid operations and NEXT satellite operations.
    • Provide on call support, real-time investigation and troubleshooting for all real-time operations anomalies related to the Ground operations and real-time software applications.
    • Support the Hosted Payload Operations Center (HPOC) by identifying new tools, processes, or software required to automate the monitoring, fault detection, and response for our hosted payload customers.
    • Coordinate with software and hardware engineers for software installation, upgrades, and troubleshooting.

    Job Requirements

     

    The applicant must be proficient in a UNIX/LINUX operating system, general software development capabilities, as well as standard PC usage and applications.  Proficiency with JAVA is required, and previous experience or ability to learn Python and Perl is required.

     

    Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

    Minimum of a BS in Computer Science, Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related technical discipline or a combination of technical experience in the area of software development. Ideal candidates will have work experience of 5+ years of web development experience. Previous development experience in an operations environment is preferred. Previous development experience for web-based software tools and applications is desired. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of satellite operations, and have experience in development and support in such an environment. Candidates must have a strong background in troubleshooting and problem solving, and working under tight time constraints. Candidates should also be efficient in several programming languages and have experience developing software tools and applications for a real-time operations environment. Candidates should be highly motivated as they will be working in a dynamic and evolving operational environment which at times requires rapid response from the support and development functions.
