    Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

     

    The Senior Quality Control Inspector is responsible for performing inspection and test on both incoming material and outgoing material for compliance to Iridium performance and appearance standards; may oversee the inspection/tests performed by other inspectors, and acts as backup for the Inspection Supervisor as required. Responsible for acting as backup for the preparation of reports, documentation and data for all material processed through Incoming Inspection.

     

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Assist as necessary in scheduling and processing of incoming material in a timely and accurate manner.
    • Participate in and perform internal audits of Iridium policies and procedures to assure compliance
    • Assist in the oversight of, as well as perform product inspection and test of Iridium materials and products; assist in completing audits of quality control programs and Iridium operating procedures.
    • Assist Quality Supervisor with defining methods for Inspection of parts, materials, assemblies and equipment to determine compliance to specified requirements and documenting in formal procedure
    • Responsible for formally documenting inspection processes, working in conjunction with Iridium Product Development Engineering and Iridium’s contract manufacturers.
    • Assists in the analysis and identification of trends in the inspection of finished products, in-process materials and bulk raw materials, and recommends corrective actions when necessary.
    • Ensure proper equipment is used to perform appropriate mechanical and electrical tests.

    • Ensures inspection sampling procedures based on statistical process control procedures are followed.
    • Assists in the development, evaluation, revision, and application of technical quality assurance protocols/methods to inspect and test in-process raw materials, production equipment, and finished products.
    • Responsible for evaluating defective product returned by customers and requesting Failure Analyses of those products as needed from the relevant suppliers.
    • Assist in the preparation and presentation, of inspection reports, data and other relevant information to management, which summarizes inspection activities, failure rates, defects, trends and other information relative to inspection results.
    • Audit housekeeping requirements and prepares monthly audit report
    • Occasionally interface with internal customers and departments
    • Assists in estimating job times and workload to support headcount forecasts

     

    Job Requirements

    • Assist in performing report preparation, trend analysis, problem resolution and scheduling inspection and test activities. Perform inspection and test activities.
    • Perform procedural audits internal to Incoming Inspection
    • Basic understanding of quality assurance principles, including statistical sampling plans.
    • Basic knowledge of electrical theory and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) compliance
    • Knowledge of statistics and process control techniques, Green belt preferred
    • Knowledge of and ability to operate electrical and mechanical test and inspection equipment.
    • Ability to read technical drawings and specifications. Read and follow written instructions.
    • Skilled in using PC applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Strong interpersonal skills and conflict resolution skills required.
    • Occasional travel for 1 to 2 weeks at a time internationally.
    • Ability to lift objects of up to 40 lbs. in weight.

     

    Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

     

    • Associates Degree in technology field (preferably an engineering discipline) or equivalent on-the-job experience is required.
    • 3 to 7 years' experience in quality data measurement and collection, preferably on electronic and electro-mechanical equipment.
    • Knowledge and understanding of J-STD_001, 002, IPC 610 preferred.
    • IPC Workmanship Standards certification is a plus.
    • Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing is a plus.
    • Applicable ASQ training is a plus
    • Understanding of 5S techniques required
    • Must be a US citizen
