    Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

    Provide Iridium satellite operations support by assessing System and Satellite Control ground software (SW) to ensure continued operations at a high level of operational availability. Identify issues/enhancement and test releases as necessary to maintain operational availability. Finally, maintain an operationally representative test environment.


    Duties and Responsibilities


    • Develop or modify automated lab configuration tools, as necessary, to quickly configure test environments and evaluate the performance of new ground SW releases (this includes both Satellite Control and Teleport Network)
    • Develop or modify performance monitoring tools, as necessary, to assess system performance (includes computing platforms and well as developed SW) in test environments
    • Work with mission operations personnel to identify issues and collect necessary data for issue analysis relative to both Satellite Control and Teleport Network.
    • Characterize mission operations environment interaction with ground SW and model interface performance testing
    • Effectively communicate to all stakeholders issue description, trigger conditions and possible workarounds via email, briefing charts or documentation
    • Develop expert level familiarity with InControl (Satellite Control SW) to Iridium SV interface documentation and functionality
    • Develop expert level familiarity with ground networks and protocols
    • Develop expert level familiarity with operational support and Teleport networks and protocols
    • Assist other test labs (i.e., System level labs) in configuring and troubleshooting issues related to Ground GW
    • Work with vendors to clearly communicate and characterize issues
    • Monitor and asses ground SW performance as necessary to react to issues before impacting mission operations
    • Support Ground Anomaly Meetings (GAMs) by providing data analysis and synthesizing data from multiple components and sources
    • Aid in the configuration management of all configuration changes and release content
    • Train Iridium personnel on lab, ground SW and operations
    • Follow formal procedures for change control, issue escalation, prioritization, risk management, and other PM processes


    Job Requirements

    • Excellent communicator as necessary to communicate complex behaviors and factors as it relates to issues and performance to both engineers and management 
    • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
    • Exceptional problem solving and data mining skills
    • Ability to comprehend technical documentation
    • A self-starter and team player
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision
    • Strong working knowledge of ground control software, Space Vehicle logical and physical interfaces and operation
    • Advanced UNIX experience and shell programming
    • Effective MS Office skills
    • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to use reference documentation
    • Prior involvement in government satellite projects and active clearance is a plus
    • Minimum of 2-5 years of InControl experience
    • OSComet experience is a plus
    • Satellite ground network experience is a plus

    Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

    • Bachelor’s degree in a science related major required
    • Minimum of 10 years Satellite control ground systems experience
    • Must possess a high level of integrity and personal ethics
